Finally fixed a Maytag Bravos that 3 other guys gave up on

Found a guy on craigslist in Des Moines with a Bravos that kept throwing an F28 error code. Everyone kept swapping the main board but the real issue was a cracked harness pin at the J2 connector... almost invisible unless you pull the wire bundle apart. Used a stethoscope to trace the intermittent fault and found it after like 45 minutes of wiggling wires. Anyone else run into those hidden harness issues on these newer machines?

Gonna disagree a little here. I've fixed maybe a dozen of those F28 codes and it's almost always the main board getting flaky from heat stress in the control panel. That J2 connector issue is real but it's way less common than people think. Pull the board and look for the brown burn marks near the big relay. That's your actual problem nine times out of ten. The cracked pin trick is a good one to keep in your back pocket though, just don't make it your first stop.

The F28 code on those models is a nightmare, I've seen it too many times. You're right about the board heat stress, I've got three bad boards sitting in my garage right now with those exact burn marks near the relay. My first time dealing with it I wasted a whole day chasing the J2 connector, never again. The cracked pin thing is good to know for sure, but man, just pull the board and look for the brown spots first.
