A customer in Phoenix taught me to test ice makers before install

I used to just swap out ice makers without checking the water inlet valve first. One customer in Phoenix called me back after I left, said the new unit flooded her kitchen overnight. The valve was stuck open and I missed it because I was in a hurry. Now I always check the valve with a multimeter and run a full cycle before I close the panel. Has anyone else had a callback from an ice maker issue that came from something else in the line?

You really think a stuck valve is the ice maker's fault? I check the valve every time now too, but honestly I've had more callbacks from people who don't shut the water off when they pull the fridge out to clean behind it. They yank it hard, snap the line, and then blame me for the puddle. Also, running a full cycle in a hot garage or on a dusty floor can throw off the sensor readings. I'd say half my issues trace back to loose connections on the harness, not the valve itself. So yeah, check the valve, but don't ignore the dumb stuff people do after you leave.

Ain't that the truth, loose harness plugs bite me more than valves do.
