The day I realized I'd been hanging all my pictures with the wrong anchors
I've lived in this 1960s building in Seattle for two years and I've patched more holes than I can count because every frame I hung slowly drooped until it fell. Last Tuesday my neighbor watched me fighting with a crooked gallery wall in the hallway and asked why I wasn't using the little plastic toggle anchors instead of the basic screws. I had no clue those even existed until she pulled out a pack of 6 she got at the hardware store for $4. Two of my heaviest frames haven't moved an inch in a week and I feel like a complete idiot for drilling into these plaster walls for nothing. What's the most basic renter fix you wish someone had told you about sooner?
