Pro tip: White noise machine fixed my neighbor's subwoofer problem

After 3 months of hearing bass thump through my bedroom wall at midnight, I picked up a $30 LectroFan and aimed it at the shared wall. Has anyone else found a specific frequency or placement that works best for muffling low end?

I had the exact same problem with my downstairs neighbor last year. I ended up putting my LectroFan on the floor about 2 feet from the wall, since the bass was coming through the floorboards more than the wall itself. Setting it to a pink noise mode at medium volume worked better than the white noise for me, it blended with the thump instead of fighting it. Took about a week of trial and error with different spots, but now I can sleep through anything. Stick with it, it really does work once you find the right placement.

@patricia_singh81 I gotta disagree a bit on the pink noise thing. Tried that myself for the same issue with bass bleed from a neighbor's subwoofer and it just felt like pink noise was too soft to mask the lower frequencies. White noise at a higher volume worked better for me, even if it was a bit harsh at first. Ear plugs under the white noise was the actual solution that finally stuck, but maybe my floor is just built different than yours.
