Everyone says to talk to your loud neighbor face to face, but that got me 3 weeks of worse noise until I slid a note under his door
My upstairs neighbor in Austin was stomping around until 1am every night, so I knocked on his door like this sub always says and asked him to quiet down, and he said sure but got louder. I tried a polite note under his door instead, just saying I work early and asking if he could move his late-night weights off the bedroom floor, and the stomping stopped in 2 days. My question is why does the face to face chat backfire for some people, has anyone else had better luck with a written note than an actual conversation?
Seems like the note worked because it gave him a way to save face, not because talking is always bad. When you knock on someone's door and call them out, they can feel attacked in front of you and dig in, but a note lets them fix it without admitting anything out loud. My guess is it depends on the person, some folks just can't hear "you're being loud" without getting defensive.
