That old-timer’s advice about using a manual torque wrench on lug nuts? I rolled my eyes for years until I snapped a stud on a 2015 Ford F-150 outside Portland last Tuesday. Has anyone else had a shop tool fail on them despite swearing by the new stuff?

I used to think digital torque wrenches were the future, but that snapped stud cost me $180 for a tow and I learned the old way has its place.

@thea143 hit the nail on the head honestly. My buddy's digital one read way off on my truck and I ended up overtightening three lug nuts before I caught it. Now I just keep a beam style torque wrench in my toolbox and never leave home without it for roadside jobs. Saved me another tow already actually.

Manual torque wrench on lug nuts" - I get where you're coming from, but I've had cheap digitals fail way more than my old beam style ever did.
