Called out my own team lead for padding his hours every Friday
Three months ago I caught my team lead adding an extra hour to his time sheet on three separate Fridays. I had to choose between reporting him to HR or trying to handle it between us. I went straight to HR in our Austin office and showed them the timestamp logs from the building entry system. He got written up and now everyone in our department of 12 knows I'm the one who snitched, but at least the overtime budget is accurate now. Anybody else been the bad guy for doing what's technically right?

Padding time is theft from the company... but also from your own coworkers.

...so my buddy actually got called out for this once and it was brutal. He was doing that thing where you clock in a few minutes early and then just sit on your phone waiting for the shift to start, then take an extra ten on his break every day. His boss finally pulled him aside and showed him the numbers, like it added up to almost two full days of pay over six months. The worst part was his coworkers found out and they were all pissed because it meant the schedule was always tight and someone else had to pick up his slack. He didn't even realize he was doing it until it was too late, but once you see it that way it's hard to unsee.
