Called my uncle's quitting bluff and now I'm the one who lost

My uncle bragged for years about walking out on his foreman job in 2009 with no notice over a safety dispute. I always thought he was being dramatic and just wanted an excuse to retire early. Last month, my plant supervisor told me to bypass a locked-out conveyor because we were behind on an order. I flat out refused and got written up for it. Then the next day they needed me to reset a jam and the same lockout tag was still on the panel. That's when I realized my uncle wasn't being dramatic, he was protecting himself from a place that doesn't care if you get hurt. I used his story as fuel to update my resume and file a formal complaint with OSHA. Has anyone else gotten vindication for a relative's quitting story after living through the same situation yourself?

Your uncle wasn't being dramatic, he was just smart enough to see the writing on the wall before you did. Honestly the bigger issue here is that you needed a near-miss to believe him instead of just taking his word for it.
