Threw $200 at a cheap borescope from Amazon and it died on my first engine inspection

Bought one of those no-name borescopes for inspecting cylinders. Worked for about 10 minutes then the camera just fogged up and went black. Tried drying it out overnight still dead. Should have just saved for a quality one from Snap-on or even a used Olympus. Anyone else get burned by cheap inspection tools?

Twenty bucks says you just got a defective one, not a whole brand problem.

You're spot on with "defective one" because that's way more common than people think. I've seen it with everything from headphones to kitchen mixers where one bad unit slips through and suddenly everyone's swearing off the whole company. Usually it's like that first batch that had a bad seal around the power button or something dumb like that. If it really was a brand problem you'd see dozens of reviews saying the same thing, not just a couple scattered complaints. Most of the time you just exchange it and the new one works perfect for years.
