Snowed in at KDDI taught me a lesson about deice fluid storage
Last January we got stuck at a small regional airport in KDDI for two days straight. The whole crew was waiting on a part, and I noticed the deice fluid barrels outside were sitting right in the open. No cover, no shielding from the wind. After the second night, the glycol mix had separated bad. We had to pump out three 55-gallon drums and test them before we could use any of it. The station manager said they always stored them that way and never had issues. I told him that was lucky, not smart. Ever since that trip, I check how shops store their deice fluid before I even sign a work order. Has anyone else run into storage problems causing wasted fluid or bad mixes?

Yeah, seen that exact thing freeze separate on a cold morning.

...and honestly, I was that lucky guy once. Back when I was green, I left a couple barrels uncovered overnight at a tiny FBO and the next morning the glycol looked like a weird slushie. Had to dump the whole thing because I couldn't get the mix right. Felt like a real genius explaining that to my boss.
