Dropped $900 on an aviation torque wrench that sits in my box collecting dust
Three years ago I got talked into buying a fancy digital torque wrench off a tool truck for $900. The guy swore it would pay for itself and I believed him like an idiot. Here is the thing, it needs calibration every 12 months which costs $150 plus shipping both ways, so that's almost $200 a year just to keep it legal. Meanwhile my old click type wrench from a pawn shop in Wichita does the same job on lug nuts and panel screws and I've never had a comeback. I used the digital one maybe 6 times in 3 years and honestly the batteries died twice on the ramp in the cold. If you are a new A&P, skip the fancy electronics and put that money toward a decent set of safety wire pliers and a borescope. Anyone else got a tool they regret buying off the truck?
Bought a $400 snap-on air drill off the truck years back. The guy said it had more torque than the cheap ones. It bogged down on the first wing skin I drilled. My $60 harbor freight one still runs fine. That calibration racket on the digital stuff is what kills me.
