Thought my neighbor was nuts for putting a towel under the fridge

I finally caved and tried it after a slow leak ruined my kitchen floor. The towel was soaked a week later, saving me a huge repair bill. Anyone else have a weird household tip that actually works?

Yeah, that trick saved my floor too. I started putting a baking sheet under the drip tray of my water dispenser. Catches all the random spills I never noticed before.

My uncle called it "redneck home insurance" when he showed me the same trick ten years ago. I argued with him about how silly it looked until my own ice maker line gave out. Now I have a whole collection of ugly towels guarding every appliance with a water line. It's the home maintenance version of eating your vegetables, boring but it works.
