Spent $400 on a home warranty and it was a total waste
I bought a plan last year thinking it would cover my old furnace. When it died in January, the warranty company sent a tech who said the part wasn't covered. I still had to pay $800 out of pocket for the fix. The whole process took two weeks of calls and waiting in a cold house. Has anyone actually had a good experience with one of these, or are they all just a scam?

Home warranties are basically a subscription service for disappointment. You pay them to send someone out to tell you why they won't pay. My experience was the same script, just a different broken appliance. It's like they make the rule book after your thing breaks.

Whoa, I actually used to think home warranties were a decent safety net (my mom swore by hers for years), but reading this kinda flips my perspective. You're right that it feels like they set up all these loopholes specifically to weasel out of paying when something actually goes wrong. I guess I bought into the idea of protection without really looking at the fine print.

Remember when they tried to sell those for cars? Same exact scam.
