PSA: my budget spreadsheet said I was fine for 8 months, then I actually opened my bank app
I built a little spreadsheet back in January and for 8 months it told me I was doing great, but the number it showed and the number in my bank app were about $900 apart. The problem was I typed in the balance once a month and never logged the small stuff, so every coffee and gas run just vanished from my math. I finally sat down on a Sunday with my actual statements, and the gap was mostly 60 or 70 small purchases I never wrote down. It took me about 3 hours to fix the sheet and set it up to pull in every card swipe instead of me guessing. If you're trusting a sheet you update by hand, go open your real balance right now and check it against what you wrote down, because mine was lying to me for months. What's the dumbest thing your budget missed?
