My fridge died overnight and I lost $200 worth of groceries

Opened the fridge last Tuesday morning to grab milk and it was warm, everything smelled awful. Had to toss all my meal prep plus that expensive grass-fed beef I got on sale. Anyone else ever have an appliance just quit without warning like that?

Did you check if it was just a tripped breaker first? That happened to me last year with my chest freezer, turned out the outlet was fried and it was way cheaper to fix than I thought. My sympathies on the grass fed beef though, that hurts.

Did you also just stare at the breaker box for like five minutes hoping it would magically reset itself? I'm pretty sure I heard my wallet cry when I found out about the beef.

Oh man, that breaker box staring contest is a real thing. I've definitely done that more than once, hoping the problem would just fix itself if I looked hard enough. The beef situation hits close to home because I lost a whole brisket last summer to a power surge. What worked for me was checking all the outlets on that circuit with a simple outlet tester from the hardware store, it was about 15 bucks. Turns out one of my garage outlets had a loose wire that was causing intermittent problems, not a full breaker trip. Might save you calling an electrician right away, and it could keep your wallet from crying again.
