My dad's 'just use the credit card' advice cost me $340 in fees
My dad kept telling me to put my car repair on my credit card last March because 'everyone does it and pays it off later.' I listened, slapped a $1,200 transmission fix on a card with a 29% APR, and then lost my job two weeks later. Six months of minimum payments later, I've paid $340 in interest and the balance barely moved. He also told me not to worry about the due dates, which I learned the hard way after a $35 late fee hit on top of everything. Now I'm doing a balance transfer to a 0% card, but the damage is done. Anyone else get financial advice from a parent that seemed fine in theory but wrecked your budget in practice?
