Just spent $300 on a 'professional' home organizing system that made my place worse

I saw an ad for these fancy drawer dividers and closet kits, bought a whole set online. It took me a whole weekend to put it all together. Turns out the sizes were all wrong for my stuff, so now I have less room than before. Has anyone found a good way to actually organize a small apartment without wasting cash?

My old apartment was 500 square feet. I started with cardboard boxes from the grocery store to test sizes before buying any bins. Once I knew what fit, I got cheap plastic containers from the dollar store. It saved me so much money and frustration.

Honestly that's such a smart way to do it. Tbh I wasted money on bins that were the wrong shape for my closet last year. Testing with free boxes first is a game changer for small spaces.
