I finally snapped the handle off my snow shovel last week

It was a cheap plastic one from Target that cost like 12 bucks. We got 8 inches of wet heavy snow here in Buffalo and I was trying to clear the end of the driveway. Now I'm standing there at 7am with a handle in one hand and a scoop in the other wondering how to finish. Anyone else had a cheap tool fail at the worst possible time?

Used to swear by cheap plastic shovels but that heavy Buffalo snow changed my mind real fast.

Three winters back I snapped the handle off a plastic special trying to clear the driveway after a 20 inch lake effect band. That was the moment I realized cheap tools cost more in the long run. @jakef66 you hit the nail on the head about the heavy stuff - those plastic blades just curl up like wet cardboard under wet snow. I made the switch to a model with a metal blade and a fiberglass handle, and it handles the Buffalo cement way better. The difference in weight is the tradeoff but the leverage makes up for it. What brand did you settle on after switching?
