Can we talk about how a simple oil change turned into a 4-hour ordeal because I forgot to put the new filter on first?

I spent all that time draining the old oil and wrestling with the drain plug, only to realize I had to put everything back and start over because the new filter wouldn't thread on with the pan empty, so has anyone else had a basic car task spiral like that?

Oh man, that's the worst! I used to think doing my own oil changes was a total no-brainer, just follow the steps. But one time I put the new oil in without replacing the drain plug first. Had a huge, slick mess all over the driveway in about two seconds. That moment really changed my mind about how easy it was. Now I lay everything out in order before I even lift the car. It feels like those simple jobs punish you the hardest for rushing.
