Took me 3 years to figure out why my buddy stopped calling...

I had this friend Dave from college who just stopped answering my texts around 2021. I thought he was mad at me or something. Turns out he was just really depressed after his dad passed and didn't want to burden anyone with it. Wish I would have just driven to his place in Austin instead of waiting for him to reach out... Has anyone else had a friendship fall apart because you assumed the wrong thing?

Turns out he was just really depressed after his dad passed" - yeah, or maybe he just didn't want to talk to you. I had a buddy in college who I drove three hours to see after he stopped calling. Showed up at his door with pizza. He looked at me like I was crazy, said he was fine, and then I never heard from him again. Some people just don't want to be found, and driving to Austin might have made him feel worse, not better.
