The 30% friendship dropout stat I found in a psychology journal
I was reading a study last week that said about 30% of adult friendships fade naturally every few years, not from fights but just from life changes like moves or new jobs. That number hit me because I always thought it was something I was doing wrong when friends drifted. Has anyone else found a stat that made them stop blaming themselves?

I read something similar in a book about adult loneliness last year, it said most people lose touch with about 20 to 30 percent of their close circle every five years just from normal stuff like job changes or moving for a partner. That made me feel a lot better too because I always kept a mental list of old friends I'd lost touch with and thought it meant I was a bad friend. The book also mentioned that the friends who stick around are usually the ones who live within a half hour drive, which sounds kinda obvious but it hit me hard. I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to keep every connection alive forever when really life just has a way of thinning things out. It's not a failure, it's just how time works...
