The 3 strike rule for canceling plans is way too strict
I read advice in a thread last week about ditching friends after they flake 3 times. That seems harsh. People have real stuff going on, my buddy in Austin missed 4 hangs in 2024 but showed up huge when my dad got sick. Counting cancellations ignores the bigger picture. Has anyone else kept a friend who bails a lot but proves they care in other ways?

The whole 3 strike thing misses what the strikes are for... like, is a "strike" someone bailing on dinner or someone skipping your grandma's funeral? Those are totally different situations. Maybe we should rate the weight of the cancel, not just the count. A buddy who flakes on cheap Taco Tuesday but shows up at the hospital at 2am is worth more than one who never misses a game night but goes quiet when things get real. That's the angle nobody talks about.
