Overheard a woman at the gym saying she 'ghosted' her friend of 12 years because she was tired of planning every hangout
I think ghosting a long term friend over one-sided planning is too harsh when you could just have an honest 5 minute conversation about it, how many of you have actually tried talking first before cutting someone off?

Wait, twelve years of friendship and you just vanish? That's insane to me. A decade plus of shared history, inside jokes, seeing each other through breakups and family stuff, and you ghost because of gym logistics? I've had the "hey this is bugging me" talk with friends over way smaller stuff like always having to Venmo them first. It's awkward for maybe two minutes then you're good. She could've just said "hey, it's your turn to pick the restaurant" instead of throwing away a whole person.

Totally get your point @wyattmitchell but I wonder if she felt like the "little" stuff had been building up for years and the gym thing was just the last straw. People will ghost when they don't think the other person will hear them out or take it seriously, even over small things. Maybe she had tried hinting or having smaller talks before and just got tired of being the one to bring stuff up. Twelve years is a long time to just walk away from without some bigger reason underneath it.
