Just realized I've kept a text thread going for over 500 days

It's with a friend from my old job, and we just send dumb memes or check in. In my experience, that kind of low-pressure consistency is the real glue for adult friendships. Anyone else have a surprisingly long-running, simple check-in with a pal?

Wait, you think a 500 day streak is a chore log, @patel.leo? That's wild to me. My best friend and I have a similar thing going, just sending funny pictures of our dogs or a "this made me think of you" link. It's not keeping score, it's just a quiet way to say you're on someone's mind without needing a big talk. That consistency is the whole point.

Meme streaks are basically the low effort version of calling someone to make sure they're still alive. My longest running text chain is just me roasting my buddy's fantasy football picks every week for three years now. Sure beats planning an actual hangout that nobody has time for.

That 500 day streak just sounds like a chore log. Real friendships need more than just hitting send on a meme to stay alive, don't they? Keeping score on texts feels like the opposite of a real connection.
