I was the friend who always canceled last minute.

Last month my best friend Sarah said 'I stopped inviting you to things because you always flake' - that stung but she was right lol. Anyone else realize they were THAT friend and have to flip their whole approach?

Flaking on plans isn't always a character flaw. Sometimes you're just the person everyone turns to when their life falls apart, and you run out of energy for happy hour. Sarah probably needed you more than you needed her calendar.

Yeah, that's a real thing. I had a buddy who would cancel on group dinners all the time. None of us were mad because we knew he was the one taking his mom to chemo appointments and helping his sister move out of a bad situation. Some people carry other people's problems on their shoulders like it's their job. So when they ghost on a casual hangout, it's not laziness. They just spent all their emotional gas keeping someone else from crashing.
