Had to pick between my old crew and my new sober friends... I chose wrong at first

Last year I was stuck deciding if I should keep hanging with my drinking buddies from college or start going to Saturday morning hikes with this group I met at a recovery meetup in Austin. Picked the old crew for 3 months straight because it was easier... just sitting around their garage drinking cheap beer. But after I bailed on the hike group for the 5th time, they kinda stopped inviting me. Now I'm trying to rebuild with the hike people but it's awkward. Has anyone else burned a bridge with new friends because they went back to the familiar?

Picked the old crew" - sounds like you chose the road more traveled by potholes, am I right?

Read an article the other day about how groups that stay together too long start to develop blind spots, @kim.charlie. You guys can probably still run the same plays in your sleep, but that's exactly the problem. Other crews are out there learning new systems and adapting their approach. That pothole road comment is pretty spot on.
