A friend from my old job just asked me to help move a couch on a Tuesday morning

We hadn't talked in maybe two years, since I left that company in Austin. The text was just 'Hey, free tomorrow? Need a hand with a sofa.' It felt so weird, like no time had passed at all. I said yes, and we actually had a good time, but it made me think about how adult friendships work. Do you ever feel like you're just on someone's 'physical labor' contact list?

That "physical labor contact list" feeling is so real, I read an article calling it "task friendship.

Task friendship" is perfect. My list is basically just Derek78 and the guy who knows how to reset my breaker box.

Nodding so hard at this @scott.charlie. I've got the neighbor with the truck and the guy from work who can fix anything with a zip tie. We don't text about our weekend plans, just "hey can you hold this ladder" or "my lawnmower's making that noise again." It's like we have this unspoken pact that I'll bring beer and they'll bring muscle. Honestly those are the most reliable friendships I have, zero small talk just problem solving.
