Spent $300 on a roof patch that lasted 3 months

I bought that rubberized roof coating from Home Depot thinking I could save money on a leaking flat roof over my garage in Albuquerque. Put two thick coats on and felt like a pro. Then the monsoon hit last August and water was dripping through the same spot. Had to call a roofer anyway and he said the coating just traps moisture under it. Anyone else get burned by those DIY roof repair kits?

Doesn't it feel like the temporary fix always costs you more in the long run?

Right? I swear my car has been held together with duct tape and hope for the last year. Every time I fix one little thing, something bigger breaks like a week later. I spent fifty bucks on a belt that snapped and took half the engine with it. Now I'm looking at a thousand dollar repair bill and wondering if I should just start walking.
