Shoutout to the neighbor who told me to check the pressure relief valve on my water heater...
My water heater started making this weird popping noise last month... called a plumber and he wanted $200 just to look at it. Buddy next door said check the pressure relief valve first, it was just stuck from mineral buildup. I tapped it open with a screwdriver and let it drain for 30 seconds, now it's fine. Has anyone else had a simple fix like that save you a bunch of money?

Shake that neighbor's hand for me because plumbers must be driving around in Maseratis these days. I had the exact same thing happen with a washing machine that sounded like it was grinding rocks, turned out a dime had fallen into the pump housing. Saved myself a $150 service call by finding a coin in there like some kind of miner. Kind of makes you wonder how many people just throw money at stuff you can fix with YouTube and a screwdriver.

My neighbor showed me the same trick when my dishwasher was making this horrible screeching noise. All it took was a butter knife to pop off the bottom cover and there was a broken glass shard jamming up the impeller. Saved me a couple hundred bucks and like an hour of my time total.
