Patching drywall vs replacing it after a leak in my NE Heights house
Last month a supply line under my kitchen sink let go and soaked the bottom two feet of drywall in the cabinet. One guy quoted me $450 to cut out the wet section and hang new board, another said $180 to just dry it, patch it, and texture over it. My neighbor Ray on Candelaria says patching is asking for mold down the road, but the cheap guy swears he has done it 30 times with no callbacks. Which way would you go? Never dealt with a leak like this before.
That sinking feeling when a pipe decides to redecorate your cabinet, been there with a washer hose a few years back. Patching over wet drywall is a gamble since mold can hide back there for months before you notice, so I'd lean toward cutting it out. $450 stings but ripping out the wet stuff and letting it dry is the only way to actually know it's clean.
