My neighbor's advice about stucco cracks saved me $2,000

Old man Martinez next door told me last spring to stop ignoring the hairline cracks on my back wall, said it'd get worse fast if I didn't seal them before monsoon season. I put it off for two months until a storm blew through and water got behind the stucco, bubbling up a patch big enough to punch through. Has anyone else had a neighbor's simple fix actually prevent a bigger mess down the line?

@jason958 nailed it with the roof cement story. I had an old timer down the street tell me to wipe WD-40 on my rusty fence hinges instead of replacing the whole gate. Did it one afternoon and the squeak was gone for over a year, saved me a hundred bucks easy. Those little tips from neighbors hit different cause they've already made the mistake themselves.

Buddy of mine had the exact same thing happen but with his roof. He kept seeing these little cracks in his old clay tiles and his neighbor, retired roofer, told him to just slap some roof cement on them before winter. Dude kept putting it off until a big snowstorm hit and water leaked through so bad it ruined his kitchen ceiling and part of the drywall. Ended up costing him like 3 grand to fix all that mess, way more than a tube of cement wouldve been. Neighbors really do come through with the small stuff sometimes.
