Just dodged a huge problem with my water heater thanks to a $40 part

My water heater started making a weird groaning sound last Tuesday, and I almost ignored it. I called a local plumber in the Northeast Heights, and he found the pressure relief valve was totally stuck. He said if it had failed completely, it could have blown and flooded my garage. Replacing just that valve cost about $40 for the part and an hour of labor. I'm so glad I didn't wait. Has anyone else had a close call with a water heater valve in Albuquerque?

My buddy's valve blew and it sounded like a gunshot in his basement. He had to replace the whole unit because the water damage was so bad. That groaning noise is no joke.

Damn that sounds terrifying. I'd probably have a heart attack if something exploded in my basement. Really makes you want to check your own unit right now.

Sounds like his water heater decided to go out with a bang, literally! Bet his heart skipped a beat when that thing popped. At least he got a dramatic story out of it, even if his wallet is crying now. Next time he hears a groan, he'll probably run for the hills!
