Appreciation post: the guy at the Coin-Op on Central has a sign about hard water stains and I think he's wrong
Stopped by the laundromat on Central near the old drive-in last Saturday to wash some drop cloths, and the owner has a handwritten sign taped to the change machine saying hard water stains on glass can only be fixed by replacing the whole pane. I've been doing glass and floor work around here for a while and that advice is just plain wrong, most of those cloudy spots come off with a razor blade and a little white vinegar if you actually put in the elbow grease. I get why he says it, a lot of folks scrub with a sponge and give up after two minutes, but telling people to rip out a window over mineral buildup is a waste of money. Our water out here is hard as a rock, I'll give him that, but I've cleaned up spots on a 1978 ranch house off Juan Tabo that looked permanent and they came right off. Maybe he had one bad job and decided it was hopeless. If you've got cloudy glass at home, don't call a glass guy yet, try the blade first. Anyone else run into a repair guy around town giving up too easy on stuff like this?
