The guy at the flea market who told me to 'just paint over it'

I brought in a half-finished model ship, the one I've been ignoring since 2019, to see if anyone could help me match the hull paint. This older guy selling old tools looked at it for like ten seconds and said 'just paint over it, nobody will notice the seams.' He had no idea I spent 6 months fairing those planks, and he wasn't even trying to be mean, he just thought I was overthinking. It stuck with me because he wasn't wrong, but he also completely missed the point of why I was stuck. I didn't want a quick fix, I wanted to know if the sanding was done right. Has anyone else gotten advice from a stranger that was too simple to actually help, or am I the only one who needs the process to feel finished before moving on?
