That one guy at the hardware store who talked me out of quitting my deck rebuild
I was about 3 hours into tearing apart this old deck in my backyard in Toledo, and everything was going wrong. The lumber was warped, my drill kept stripping screws, and I was ready to just dump it all. This older guy named Sal came over from the next yard over, saw me sitting on the steps looking defeated, and just said 'you're not done yet, you just hit the frustrating part.' He showed me how to pre-drill every hole with a specific bit size, which took maybe 10 extra minutes but saved all the stripping. I finished the whole thing 2 weekends later and it's still solid. Has anyone else had a random stranger's advice keep them from abandoning a project?

My last deck rebuild ended with me buying 3 wrong types of screws in a row. Sal would be disappointed.

Man, buying three wrong screws in a row is a special kind of pain I know too well.
