Spent a whole Saturday trying to fix a garage door opener and made it worse
I thought I could just replace the sensors on my ancient Chamberlain opener, but 4 hours later the door was stuck halfway open and I had to call a pro on a Sunday. He charged me $180 to basically undo everything I did and swap one $12 part. Has anyone else had a simple project turn into a money pit like that?

Start noticing how everything's built to fail now just so you keep paying. My buddy tried swapping a toilet flapper last month and ended up cracking the toilet bowl because the plastic fitting was brittle. Then there's my neighbor who wanted to change a car battery and stripped the terminal bolt because it was made of the softest metal ever. It's like companies design stuff so you can't fix it yourself without breaking something else. And the worst part is you still gotta pay someone double to clean up your mess.

Same thing with appliances - I've got a washer that's barely 4 years old and the control board died, cost almost half what I paid for the whole machine to replace it. They know most people will just buy a new one rather than deal with that nonsense.
