Showerthought: my abandoned garage gym sat for 14 months until I read that most people quit projects in the first 3 weeks, not the middle
I started building a garage gym back in the spring of last year, got as far as hanging two stall mats and a pull up bar, then just stopped. The half finished rack sat in the corner of my garage in Boise collecting sawdust for 14 months. Last week I read a stat from a behavior study that said something like 80 percent of people who quit a hobby or project do it within the first 3 weeks, not later when it gets hard. That hit me because I always figured I stalled out because the project got boring or expensive. Turns out I quit right at the start, back when I only had 2 things done out of like 9 on my list. So I sat down and broke the whole thing into tiny steps that take under 30 minutes each, and I knocked out 4 of them in one evening. Still have the ceiling fan wires to sort out and the plate storage to bolt down. Curious if anyone else here has tried the small steps thing on a project that sat dead for over a year, did it actually stick or did you stall again?
