Overheard a guy at Home Depot say his awning project was 8 months stalled because he bought the wrong brackets

8 months over some brackets? Man, that sounds like he just didn't feel like finishing. I've bought the wrong part for stuff a million times and it takes me maybe a weekend to figure out, not 8 months. Maybe he was just looking for an excuse not to work on it. You can literally Google "what bracket do I need" in like 5 minutes. Feels like a story to tell at parties more than a real problem.

My last DIY project I bought the wrong screws three times in a row for a simple shelf. Eight months sounds about right when you factor in the trips to the hardware store, the angry staring at the parts, and the eventual giving up until the weather forces you to finish it. I once spent an entire afternoon just sitting on my porch watching youtube videos because I couldn't figure out which drill bit was which.
