One critique about my messy code stopped me from hoarding old versions
I had this side project, a simple habit tracker app, that I kept rebuilding from scratch every few months. Every time I got stuck, I'd just copy the whole folder to a backup file and start over. Last month a friend looked at my desktop and said, 'You have 47 versions of the same app here, none of them work, and you're terrified of deleting any of them.' They were right. I was treating every failed attempt like a precious artifact instead of a learning step. So I spent a Saturday merging the good parts from version 31 and 42 into one clean codebase, then deleted the rest. My app now actually runs without me hunting through old files for a function I vaguely remember writing. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you bin your own safety nets like that?
