My old way of tracking revisions was a mess, whiteboards changed it

I used to keep project notes in a spiral notebook and sticky notes all over my desk. Last month I lost a whole week of edits because a sticky fell behind the monitor and I redid work twice. My buddy at the co-working space in Portland suggested a simple whiteboard with color coded columns for each project stage. Now I erase and rewrite every morning in 10 minutes, and I can see exactly where each thing stalls. Has anyone else found a simple tool that replaced their whole tracking system?

Ditch the whiteboard before it becomes another mess. Wiping and rewriting every morning means you are just moving the same info by hand, and that is time you could spend actually working. Erasing mistakes is how things get lost too, I have seen it happen. Digital notes with timestamps beat any physical board for tracking edits, even a simple text file works. If the whiteboard works for you, fine, but do not call it a replacement system. It is just a prettier version of your sticky note problem. Eventually you will hit the same wall again, maybe worse.
