My cross-stitch dragon went from 2 inches wide to 18 inches with still 40% left to go

I got ambitious at the craft store last spring and grabbed this massive pattern, but now I've been stitching the same sky background for 6 weeks straight. Anyone else ever bite off way more than their hobby shelf can handle?

Feel that pain deep in my stitching bones. I once bought a kit for a full-sized tapestry of a castle, thought it would be a nice weekend project. Two years later and I still have a pile of floss the size of my couch staring at me, half-finished.

Ever tried breaking it down into smaller sections? Helps with the burnout.
