I blew $340 on planner apps and fancy notebooks for a side project I never started
Last spring I got this bug to build a garden planning tool for my mom's neighborhood group. First I bought a yearly subscription to a fancy project app for $96. Then I grabbed two hardcover notebooks at a shop in Boise for $62, plus a $180 online course on shipping side projects. Total damage was $340 and I never wrote one line of code or drew one screen. The course guy kept pushing a launch checklist and webinars, but the actual work part was maybe 20 minutes of video. What finally got me moving was one dumb rule I made up: I can only work on it for 15 minutes a day with a free notes app. Three weeks in and I have a working sketch and five testers from the group. Has anyone else burned real cash on tools before doing any actual work, and what made you finally just start?
Made a similar deal with myself last year: one page a day in a cheap spiral notebook, that's it. Turns out the tiny limit is what actually kills the resistance, because there's nothing to dread. Fancy tools just give you a way to feel busy without doing anything.
