Extruder motor stutters

Postby dbbones » 20 Oct 2014, 00:51

Folks, I had an unfortunate clog event (after many successful prints)... After installing a new nozzle, reaming the Teflon tube, etc. I had no joy. my suspicions turned toward the extruder / filament feeder. To get a good look at what was going on, I unmounted the hot end, learned how to manually send codes for extrude and now am simply trying to feed filament into open air... What I see is that the motor seems stuck... That is, it stutters, the filament moves back and forth but never goes forward. Manually turning the motor shaft has the desired effect of pushing filament thru?

Any ideas?

Thanks, db

Does the motor move when there is no filament in it?

Also have you checked that the hobbed bolt is not clogged up. A good scrub with an old toothbrush helps.

Have you checked that the bolt and the idler are lined up, also with the tube.

You may need to adjust your pot to get the correct current but do this last.

That link would be useful to me as well as I seem to have started having the exact same problem. I'm also wondering, is this board very active?
