Extruder assembly stiff and sticky movements

Postby Falango » 26 Aug 2014, 07:48

Hey gang,

I've just assembled my RBB, and noticed that the extruder assembly doesn't seem to move freely on the gantry. I undid the screws on the 3 bearings that are on the bottom of the extruder assembly in the hopes that it would loosen up the movement, but it's still very stiff, and I feel like the motor would burn out real fast running it like this. Anyone else experience this? Any tips?

Are the bars perfectly aligned? there shouldn't be a great deal of resistance.. Perhaps try some machine oil on the gantry bars?

yeah check the horizontal bars that it rides on they should be straight, belt not over tight, also I put lithium grease on the bearings that are within the slides ( 3 sets in each)..loosening the slides is a good idea but if that didn't help i'd check the others as suggested..

I have some lithium grease on hand, so I'm gonna give that a go first. Thanks!

Lithium grease did the job. I've run it through some test prints and sliding the extruder assembly manually is really smooth now. Thanks guys!

Now time to sort out all the other hiccups, lol
