Gearbox sizing for trolley

Postby williamhawk » 04 Oct 2017, 14:56

I need to size a gearbox+motor. They will be used to move a heavy trolley and will be attached to the wheels. I have never done anything like this. Can anyone recommend any guide, book or web I can consult? Ideally something that explains the whole process, from working out the output rpm and torque I need at the wheel to selecting the right gearbox and motor.

I will also need to add a torque limiter and brake to the system but that will come later.

My trolley fully loaded weighs 170 tons and it needs to move at a very low speed, about 1rpm. I gave it a go using two gearmotor units and came up with a motor power of 0.1kW. I have been told by a colleague that that sounds completely wrong.

Can anybody help?

Please help.
Thanks!

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
