Using customer electronics at high altitude

Postby MichaelSmith » 10 May 2018, 06:14

Hello,

When I fly, I have a small vario attached to the helmet, connected via bluetooth to a 7" tablet running XCSoar, the setup is perfect for the kind of flights I mostly do (2-3 hours flights, never exceeding 2500 m ASL since I take off rather low).
I was however wondering about making flights from higher take-off points and therefore reaching 4000-4500 m ASL: there the temperature is below zero meaning that consumer electronics like tablet may/will stop working (usually they operate up until 0 C/32 F) and I fear the vario may face similar problem.

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
